About Day Counter
Formula
Days Between = End Date - Start Date (in days) The calculation converts dates to days since epoch, subtracts, and converts back. Weekday counting iterates through each day checking the day of week.
Current Standards: International Organization for Standardization (ISO 8601) defines Monday as the first day of the week. US convention often starts weeks on Sunday. This affects 'complete weeks' counting but not total days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does '30 days' mean one month?
Not exactly. Months vary from 28-31 days. '30 days from March 15' is April 14, but 'one month from March 15' is April 15. For legal and contract purposes, 'days' means calendar days unless otherwise specified. If the document says 'one month,' it typically means the same date in the next month.
How do I convert calendar days to business days?
Roughly, multiply calendar days by 5/7 to estimate business days (weekdays). For 70 calendar days: 70 x 5/7 = 50 business days approximately. For precision, use the business days toggle. Remember this doesn't account for holidays - subtract those manually.
Why does 'today to today' show 0 days?
With exclusive counting, the number represents days between the dates. Today to today has zero days between them. Enable 'include end day' for inclusive counting where today to today equals 1 day. Choose the method that matches your use case.
How do I count backward from a deadline?
Use the Add/Subtract tab with 'subtract' selected. If your deadline is June 15 and you need 30 business days, enter June 15, select subtract 30 days with business days option. The result is when you need to start to meet the deadline.
Are weekends the same worldwide?
No. Many Middle Eastern countries have Friday-Saturday weekends. Some countries have Friday-only or Saturday-only weekends. This calculator uses the US/European Saturday-Sunday weekend. For international business, confirm which days are working days in each country involved.
